Seamlessly Transitioning to Google Analytics 4 for Digital Marketing

If you’re currently using Google Analytics Universal (also known as GA), you may want to consider switching to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to take advantage of the newest features and improved data tracking. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make the transition:

Step 1:

Set up a new GA4 property To begin the process, you’ll need to create a new GA4 property in your Google Analytics account. This can be done by clicking on “Admin” in the bottom left-hand corner of your GA dashboard, and then selecting “Create Property” under the “Property” column. Follow the prompts to create a new GA4 property.

Step 2:

Link your GA4 property to your website Once you’ve created your new GA4 property, you’ll need to link it to your website. This can be done by clicking on “Data Streams” under the “Property” column, and then clicking on the “Set up Tag” button next to your new GA4 property. Follow the prompts to install the GA4 tracking code on your website.

Step 3:

Import your GA data to GA4 To ensure a smooth transition, you can import your GA data (up to 14 months of historical data) into your new GA4 property. This can be done by clicking on “Admin” in the bottom left-hand corner of your GA dashboard, and then selecting “GA4 Setup Assistant” under the “Property” column. Follow the prompts to import your data.

Step 4:

Test your GA4 tracking Once you’ve imported your data, it’s important to test your GA4 tracking to ensure that it’s working properly. You can do this by navigating to your website and checking that your GA4 property is receiving data.

Step 5:

Make the switch Once you’re confident that your GA4 tracking is working correctly, it’s time to make the switch. This can be done by clicking on “Admin” in the bottom left-hand corner of your GA dashboard, and then selecting “GA4 Setup Assistant” under the “Property” column. Follow the prompts to complete the transition.
